Opening or sliding terrace doors? Which variant is more practical?

A terrace is an architectural element of a house that many people dream of. Thanks to it, you can spend pleasant moments with family or friends outdoors during warm summer evenings and more. The terrace is also a great place to organize small parties or games. However, it is worth remembering to take care of appropriate terrace doors so that you can move freely between the terrace and the interior of the house. Currently, sliding doors are very popular, but you can also find a variant that opens in a classic way. So let's see which type is more practical.

What material for terrace doors?

Before choosing the type of terrace door, it is worth considering the material of which they are to be constructed. Currently, you can choose from wood, aluminum or PVC. Each variant has its own advantages, and the final choice will certainly be influenced by the buyer's taste. Surely the cheapest option will be plastic terrace doors. However, the cheapest does not mean the least durable. On the contrary. Modern PVC terrace doors are created with many years of use in mind. This is all thanks to the shape welding and the perfect fit of the seal.

Terrace doors hinged and sliding

In order to make a more accurate decision about choosing the type of terrace door, it is best to put a classic hinged and a sliding variant opposite each other. Sliding doors are certainly a better solution when we do not have too much space to open such doors. Usually they also look much more modern than the classic hinged models. It is also worth mentioning a quite important issue. Namely, sliding doors with rails flush with the floor facilitate the transition to the terrace, limiting the possibility of stumbling over the threshold. This convenience will be useful, among other things, when you need to transport a pram to the terrace.

When it comes to doors opened in the classic way, they are a good alternative for a smaller budget. In stores you can find models with one or two opening leaves. In single-family houses, double-leaf doors are usually installed, which let in a lot of natural light into the interior and optically enlarge it. This type of door will look better in classic-style buildings, such as manors, and will also work well in older-type houses. Of course, this does not mean that they should be completely abandoned in the case of newer construction.

Sliding doors are worth choosing when there is a small space in the interior and on the terrace. Their modern design will certainly give a more elegant character to the entire building. If, however, we prefer a cheaper solution for a building with a more traditional style, we should choose terrace doors that open in a classic way. It is also worth consulting the seller in the store, which will suggest what solution may be the best for our type of house.
